الفلسطيني في قاموس أكسفورد !

"الفلسطيني" (1997)، عمل فنّي للفنّان خليل رباح، مبنيّ من الطبعة الأمريكيّة لعام 1997 من قاموس أكسفورد للمفردات، مفتوح على الصفحتَين 592-593، ومثبّت بمسامير بناء لتغطية الحيّز بأكمله، باستثناء تعريف كلمة واحدة. في هذه الصفحة يتمّ تعريف "الفلسطيني" على أنّه: "1. فرد في شعب معارض لبني إسرائيل في فلسطين القديمة. 2. شخص معادٍ أو غير مبالٍ بالثقافة.

التعريف نفسه هو جزء من سرد أوروبّي وتبرير ديني أوسع، صاغ، على المستويَين التاريخي والجمعي، ماضيًا لحوض البحر المتوسّط يلبّي تطلّعات أوروبّا الاستعماريّة ومعاداتها للساميّة. يُلمِح التعريف إلى أنّ فلسطين عالقة، منذ الأزل وإلى الأبد، في الماضي القديم، في زمان ما من القرن الثاني عشر قبل الميلاد، حيث يمكن، بسهولة، استبعاد التطوّرات المعقّدة للتاريخ والثقافات والحركات، باعتبارها هوامش ثانويّة في التاريخ. لقد أفسح هذا المنظور المجال أمام الأيوديولوجيا الاستعماريّة الصهيونيّة الأوروبيّة الأساسيّة، ومفادها أنّ هذه الأرض خالية من الساميّين، أو أنّ الناس فيها ليسوا من السكّان الأصليّين.

هذا العمل هو أحد الأعمال الفنيّة في معرض "أمير غزّة الصغير"، الذي جاء بمثابة تحيّة إكبار وإجلال لارتقاء أكثر من 8000 روح فتيّة بين عمر اليوم و18 عامًا فقدناها، ضحيّة العدوان الإسرائيلي الوحشي على قطاع غزّة.

Philistine, 1997, instillation by Khalil Rabah is constructed from the 1997 American edition of The Oxford Desk Dictionary and Thesaurus, open to pages 592-593, and hammered with masonry nails to cover the whole spread except for the definition of one word. On this page the word ‘Philistine’ is defined as “1. member of a people opposing the Israelites in ancient Palestine. 2. person who is hostile or indifferent to culture.”

The definition itself is part of a broader euro-centric narrative and religious justification that has historically and collectively assigned the Eastern Mediterranean basin a past which functions solely according to the needs of colonial Europe and, by extension, its own antisemitism. It insinuates that Palestine is forever stuck in this ancient past, somewhere around 12th century BCE, where the complex evolutions of history, cultures, and movements can so easily be dismissed as anunimportant footnote in history.

This perspective has made room for the primarily European Zionist colonialist ideology of proclaiming the land empty of semitic people, and/or that the people there are not native to the land.

This is one of the artworks is featured in the "The Little Prince of Gaza" exhibition, which serves as a tribute to more than 8,000 young lives ages zero and 18 we lost in the brutal Israeli aggression on Gaza.
